The Dairy and Food Science Department at South Dakota State University invites applications for the position of Associate Professor – Endowed Alfred Chair in Dairy Manufacturing. This position provides a unique opportunity for research and to train future leaders in dairy manufacturing. This is a tenure-track, 9-month, 88% research and 12% teaching appointment with opportunities to supplement salary for up to 10 weeks in the summer from extramural funds acquired by the faculty member. This position is supervised by the Department Head of Dairy and Food Science and has an expected start date in August 2021. SDSU is especially interested in candidates that can contribute to and/or coordinate course offerings that address the experiences of underrepresented minorities in organizations. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful candidate will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research and teaching program, acquire extramural funding for research and publish research results in peer-reviewed journals. Research emphasis will be in dairy manufacturing (processing). This could include topics such as applications of basic dairy chemistry, dairy microbiology, etc. Collaboration with other faculty members and teaching and advising is expected. The Department focuses on the creation, development and distribution of basic and applied knowledge related to dairy production and manufacturing, ranging in scope from the molecular to the applied level. The successful candidate will also be responsible for assuming a key role in the Department’s undergraduate and graduate teaching program. Participation in the departmental graduate program is expected, as is service to the department, college and university.
