The South Dakota State University Animal Science Department is offering an exciting career opportunity as an Instructor and Livestock Judging Team Coach. We are looking for a creative and innovative professional to join us August 21, 2023. This is a 9-month, 100% time, non-tenure track position, and is benefit eligible. This position is supervised by the Animal Science Department Head.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching:
Introduction to Livestock
Advanced Livestock Evaluation
Other courses consistent with the applicant’s expertise and departmental needs
Coaching:
The Junior Livestock Judging Team
The Senior Livestock Judging Team
The live animal portion of the Meat Animal Evaluation Team
Fundraising activities to support travel
Outreach Activities:
Coordinate state and regional 4-H and FFA livestock judging contests
Host judging camps and clinics
Organize clinics for livestock judges
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned M.S. degree in Animal Science or closely related field by start date;
Demonstrated commitment to excellence in classroom instruction and ability to develop innovative, effective methods of teaching undergraduate courses;
Member of competitive livestock judging team at collegiate level;
Strong production livestock background;
Excellent written communication skills;
Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous fund-raising experience to help support teams they coached;
Prior experience coaching a collegiate livestock judging team;
