The Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Oklahoma State University invites applications for an 11-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor position (70% research and 30% teaching) in Quantitative or Statistical Genetics. This position carries the expectation of excellence in scholarship across all areas of the appointment, commensurate with the land grant mission of Oklahoma State University. The successful candidate is expected to develop an internationally recognized research program in quantitative or statistical genetics/genomics and contribute to and complement the existing research strengths of the department. The new hire is expected to seek and secure extramural funding in support of a multidisciplinary research program in collaboration with other faculty in the Department, the Division, and the University, as well as connecting with stakeholders, agencies, and/or industry partners to strengthen research in the department. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in genetics or related areas based on his/her expertise and the needs of the department.
A Ph.D. in Animal Science, Genetics, Statistics, or a related field is required, and postdoctoral experience is preferred. Applicants must be committed to both research and teaching excellence. Individuals must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and have quantitative genetics/genomics expertise in livestock. Potential focus areas include but are not limited to, the development of novel methods for integrating and analyzing genomics and phenomics data, the use of computational and quantitative genetics, and the optimization of qualitative genetic selection to improve animal breeding and production systems and minimize environmental impacts on production systems. Preference will be given to individuals who have demonstrated potential for developing an internationally recognized, competitively funded research program and who are interested in working with multidisciplinary teams to solve regional, national, and international issues related to addressing challenges in animal agriculture to improve health and productivity while ensuring food security and providing sustainable advancements in animal agriculture.
