The Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a 70% teaching and 30% research tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. This position carries the expectation of excellence in Teaching and Research commensurate with the land grant mission of Oklahoma State University.
Position Description
The successful candidate will (a) teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in sustainable livestock systems and meat, milk, or fiber livestock production management; (b) recruit and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; (c) contribute to the scholarship of the profession through innovative teaching approaches, scholarly teaching and learning research, curriculum development, external grants/contracts, and other forms of scholarly effort; and (d) build strong, collaborative industry relationships for student internships and careers.
The successful candidate’s research initiatives may include identifying strategies to enhance the efficiency of meat, milk, or fiber production from livestock systems to promote the livelihood, health, and nutrition of communities, while reducing negative environmental impacts, and other innovative ideas. The candidate will be encouraged to seek collaborations with faculty in the department and division that focus on sustainable livestock production systems. The responsibilities of this position align with Oklahoma State University’s strategic initiatives of Innovating to Nourish the World, Enhancing Human and Animal Health (OneHealth), and Powering a Growing World Population Sustainably and Responsibly.
Qualifications A Ph.D. in Animal Science or a related area is required for this position. Applicants must be committed to the land grant university missions of teaching and research. The candidate must have a strong background in teaching and livestock management. They must also have documented experience in scholarly activities in research. Preference will be given to individuals with previous teaching/research activities, strong oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills with diverse audiences, and a record of successful collaboration in an academic environment.
Employment Conditions This position is to be filled by January 1, 2025, or as soon as a suitable candidate is identified. The position is an 11-month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive and based on qualifications and experience. Retirement and long-term disability, medical, dental and life insurance programs are available to employees. Continuation of this position is subject to performance, needs and available funding.

The department is home to nine undergraduate student organizations and seven competitive undergraduate teams.
