The Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Oklahoma State University invites applications for a 60% teaching and 40% research tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This position carries the expectation of excellence in teaching and research commensurate with the land grant mission of Oklahoma State University.
Position Description The successful candidate is expected to teach food science courses and develop an applied or basic research program in meat science or meat chemistry. Preference will be given to candidates who have taught or are currently teaching graduate or undergraduate-level food science courses. The selected candidate may develop courses in the area of product development and sensory analysis and/or teach existing food science courses in food analysis, foodborne allergens and toxins, or related areas. The successful candidate will also be involved in food science recruitment and undergraduate mentoring. This individual is expected to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team of food scientists and technologists. There is an expectation to secure external funding from industry, federal agencies, or other granting sources and to publish research findings in scientific journals. The responsibilities of this position align with Oklahoma State University’s strategic initiatives, including Innovating to Nourish the World, Enhancing Human and Animal Health (OneHealth), and Powering a Growing World Population Sustainably and Responsibly.
Qualifications A Ph.D. in Animal Science, Food Science, or related areas. Applicants must be committed to teaching and research missions of land grant university. The candidate must have a strong background in food science with an understanding of fresh meat quality. They must also have documented experience in scholarly research activities. Preference will be given to individuals with previous teaching experiences, strong oral and written communication skills, and a record of successful collaboration in an academic environment.
Employment Conditions This position is to be filled by January 1, 2025, or as soon as a suitable candidate is identified. The position is an 11-month, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Salary and benefits are competitive and based on qualifications and experience. Retirement and long-term disability, medical, dental and life insurance programs are available to employees. Continuation of this position is subject to performance, needs, and available funding.
