The Horse Science Program in the Middle Tennessee State University School of Agriculture invites applicants for a 12-month clinical-track faculty position in equine reproduction and wellness. The John Miller Clinical Specialist in Equine Reproduction is a veterinarian in residence who teaches, conducts research, and oversees horse herd health care at the MTSU Horse Barn. The applicant will teach undergraduate and graduate students in classroom and laboratory settings related to equine reproductive physiology, horse breeding management, equine health, wellness, or welfare, and may include additional courses as suited to their area of expertise. This faculty appointment will provide routine veterinary care to the university horses, oversee a small-scale Tennessee Walking Horse breeding program, and maintain herd health records. Strong interpersonal skills are expected, resulting in a valued team member providing leadership and mentoring skills to students interested in horse science and veterinary health professions. The successful candidate will develop a strong teaching program combined with research and service within their area of equine expertise. The position requires excellent oral and written communication skills, computer skills, and the ability to communicate with college students, horse industry personnel, faculty, staff, and youth.
Applicants with experience teaching in classroom or clinical situations related to horses, equine reproduction, or equine health will receive special consideration. Also, those with board certification in equine practice, theriogenology, or internal medicine and those with strong professional connections in the horse industry will receive special consideration.
A Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or an equivalent terminal veterinary degree is required by the appointment date. A minimum of one-year post-veterinary-degree experience providing horse veterinary health care or as an equine veterinary intern is required. A license or license eligible to practice veterinary medicine in Tennessee is required.
